Building Inspection

One of the city's goals is to ensure that buildings, structures and building service equipment are constructed or installed according to the minimum standards set forth in our adopted building codes, 2006 International Building Codes and the 2005 National Electric Building Codes. This is done through the Building Permit process and through ensuing inspections.

Permits are required for:

  • Heating & Air Conditioning (HVAC) work
  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing
  • New Construction
  • Remodeling (depending on the project)
  • Driveways
  • Demolition
  • Construction of Carports
  • Fences (do not require a permit, but have specific setback requirements)

The majority of inspections are done in response to requests for inspections related to building permits. Other inspections are done on a random, spot-check basis or in response to complaints. Inspections are performed on various aspects of building construction including framing, fire protection, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.
