Parsons Public Library is happy to announce the expansion of one of our most popular programs, "Evening Story Time" for children. In the past, we have hosted one "Evening Story Time" per month, but beginning in late January, we plan to host this event once a week. Now, parents and caregivers will have an opportunity each week to turn off the TV and spend some quality time with their children. Our "Evening Story Time" will start each Monday night at 6:30 pm, with the first scheduled to begin January 28.
For those parents who prefer daytime programs, we will continue to have our regular daytime Story Times on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Research has shown that Story Time benefits children in many ways that include helping to stimulate brain development and developing important social and motor skills. Moreover, Story Time encourages a love of reading, which eventually may lead to stronger academic achievement and greater job success later in life.
For adults, we will be offering another book discussion series sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council. This three-part series will run from February through April on the theme "A Woman's Place." Each of the three books chosen for the series reflects different views of the role of women in our society during the twentieth century. The first session is scheduled for February 25 at 6:30 p.m. and will discuss Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. The next discussion, on March 24, focuses on Willa Cather's, A Lost Lady. The final discussion, scheduled for April 28, will examine A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen. The library will also host a couple of movie nights related to the books.
