Fraud Alert

The Parsons Police Department has implemented a new program in an attempt to cut down on identity theft and fraud.

The department has been compiling a list of e-mail & personal contacts for local businesses. If a person's identity or checks are stolen, the police department will be able to send out an alert so businesses will be able to identify individuals with identity/fraud problems.

The largest issue that the police department deals with is forged checks. After closing an account, it is of the utmost importance that the old checks are destroyed by shredding.

With forged checks being the largest issue, the Police Department also wants to start a program tentatively called "Stand Up and Be Identified." The program would encourage people to have their identification cards available and volunteer it to clerks. The goal is for people to understand why it is important for businesses to ask for identification.

If you are a business that would like to be on this list, please contact Sgt. Walter Largent at 421-7060 or email at wlargent@terraworld.net.
