After several years of not having a Community Resource Officer (CRO), the City of Parsons reinstated the program on December 1, 2006.
Officer Walter Largent was appointed to the position of Community Resource Officer/D.A.R.E. Instructor. Officer Largent started his law enforcement career with the Parsons Police Department in February of 2000. In January of 2002, he became a D.A.R.E. Instructor for the department and has taught the D.A.R.E. Program since that time. Officer Walter Largent was then promoted to the rank of Corporal in October of 2002. Along with the newly appointed position, he has also obtained the rank of Sergeant.
Although the scope of the CRO position is still being worked out, the primary focus will be bridging the community with the Police Department. The department hopes to create new community programs and enhance current ones by also drawing on the officer's expertise. Plans to make the officers more accessible could be acomplihsed with "meet and Greets" to discuss certain issues, and by their availability to speak to organizations, businesses and groups needing guest speakers.
If a business, organization, or individual would like to schedule an event, they can contact Sergeant Walter Largent at the police department 421-7060, or email him at wlargent@terraworld.net.
