What was once considered by many as a "long-shot" project is now in the process of becoming a reality. Progress continues on the Forest Park Amphitheatre which is scheduled to be completed later this year.

Funding for the project came through a grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce Community Tax Credit program which was approved in June of 2006. Through the program, individuals and businesses that pledged donations would receive Kansas Tax Credits equal to 70% of their donations. The project is being administered through the Parsons Community Foundation, and the City of Parsons is assisting with support in the planning, site preparations, and construction administration.

In all more than $250,000 was raised to build the new amphitheatre, which will include an elevated stage, updated electric service, new lighting, seating area, and an access driveway.

Currently, the design committee is working with the architectural firm BG Consultants, Inc. to finalize plans which would then go to bid with construction to start in the summer and be completed by the fall.

When completed the new amphitheatre will host numerous special events including the Katy Days Festival, Arts and Crafts Fair, the highly successful "Summer in the Park" music series, and community theatrical productions.
