The investigation division of the Parsons Police Department is staffed by two detectives. Both have several years of service with the department. The division is responsible for the complete investigations of all major cases occurring with in the city. The division also brings closure to almost all open felony cases.
A variety of special investigative functions operate out of the detective division. Narcotics, robberies, serious sexual assaults, serious physical assaults, child abuse cases and other felony cases that demand unique investigative knowledge are only a few of the functions. Besides conducting investigations, detective are responsible for completing and preparing reports for prosecution. The division also manages the department evidence room to ensure that evidence is properly logged, tested and ready for trial.
Personnel assigned to the detective division must possess special knowledge and skills in interviewing, crime scene investigation, warrant preparation, evidence collection and preservation, constitutional issues like search and seizure, Miranda and interpersonal skills. |
